We came to the UK after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2024, leaving our former lives behind. The constant shelling of our cities and prolonged blackouts caused by the destruction of Ukraine’s power grid forced us to seek a safer place where we could raise and educate our children. We were fortunate to adapt quickly to our new environment and have since found permanent work in educational projects across West Yorkshire.
As we settled in, we reflected on what helped us adjust so rapidly. First and foremost, it was the extraordinary kindness, openness, and support of the British people. Secondly, we arrived with a strong command of English.
After two years abroad, as the war continued and it became clear that its consequences would affect Ukraine for decades, we felt a responsibility to contribute in a way that would have a lasting impact. Our mission is to create educational opportunities for Ukrainian children - helping them learn, grow, and prepare for the future. In 15-20 years’ time, these children will be the ones rebuilding our country.
Through our project, we provide English lessons for children affected by the war and supply Ukrainian libraries with English books kindly donated by British individuals and libraries. These books open doors to knowledge, imagination, and connection with the wider world, giving children hope and practical skills for the future.
We would be deeply grateful for your support and for helping us spread the word. The more people who join this project, the more children we can reach - and the brighter the future we can help them build together!
